Chapter 26 Bleeding Vocab Flashcards
Aorta
The main artery that receives blood front of the ventricle, and deliver it to all the other arteries that carry blood to the tissues of the body
Arteriols
The smallest branch of arteries leading to capillaries
Artery
A blood vessel, consisting of three layers of tissue in smooth muscles that carry blood away from the heart
Capillaries
connect arterials in venules
coagulation
The formation of clot to plug openings in injured blood vessels
Contusion
A bruise from an injury that causes bleeding beneath the skin(ecchymosis)
Ecchymosis
A buildup of blood beneath the skin that produces a characteristic blue or black discoloration
Epistaxis
Nosebleed
Hematemesis
Vomiting blood
Hematoma
A massive blood that has collected with the damage tissue beneath the skin or in the cavity
Hematuria
Blood in the urine
Hemophilia
lacks one or more of the blood to normal clotting factor
Hemoptysis
Coughing up blood
Hemorrhage
Bleeding
Hemostatic dressing
Addressing impregnated with the chemical compound that slows or stops bleeding by assisting with clot formation
Hypoperfusion
A condition in which the circulatory system fails
Hypovolemic shock
Low blood volume
Junctional tourniquet
A device that provides proximal compressions of severe bleeding near the axial or iguinal
Melena
Black foul smelling tarry stool containing digested blood
Open book pelvic fracture
A life-threatening fracture of the pelvis caused by force that is placed one or both sides of the pelvis, lateral and posteriorly
Pelvic binder
A device to split the the bony pelvis to reduce Hemorrhage
Perfusion
The circulation of blood with an organ or tissue
Shock
A condition in which the circulatory system fails to provide sufficient circulation to maintain normal cellular functions ,hypoperfusion
Tourniquet
The bleeding control method used when a wound continues to bleed despite the use of direct pressure
Vasoconstriction
The narrowing of a blood vessel
Veins
The blood vessel that carries blood from the tissue to the heart
Venules
Very small, thin walled blood vessels
