Define Cervical Ectropion?
Ectocervical migration of columnar epithelium.
What is linked to cervical ectropion?
Oestrogen - pregnancy, COCP
What are the signs and symptoms of cervical ectropion?
Present with IMB, PCB, increased discharge
What are the appropriate investigations for a suspected cervical polyp?
Speculum
What is the management of a cervical ectropion?
- Reassurance
- Cauterisation - chemical or heat
- Cryotherapy
- Move from oestrogen-based contraceptives
Define Cervical Polyp.
Overgrowth of endocervical columnar epithelium
- Benign
- Solitary
What are the appropriate investigations for a suspected cervical ectropion?
Speculum
What are the signs and symptoms of cervical polyps?
- Asymptomatic or small bleeding and discharge
- If at cervix, PCB may be more apparent
What is the management of cervical polyps?
- reassurance
- Generally advised to remove - twist off if small or surgery
- Send for histology
What are the appropriate investigations for endometrial polyps?
- TVUSS
- Outpatient hysteroscopy and saline infusion sonography (SIS) are the most accurate
What is the management of endometrial polyps?
- May resolve spontaneously (if small)
- Polypectomy to alleviate AUB symptoms, optimise fertility and exclude hyperplasia/cancer
- Day-case under GA or under LA in OPD
