Q

What did Hendrik Verwoerd do?

A

He offered black SAs the apparent chance to develop was they wanted in their homelands separately from whites. These homelands could become completely independent nations, nicknamed “Bantustans”, but no other nations recognised them for they were too small with little social or economic strength

What did the Bantu Self-Government Act 1959 do?

A

Put some of the Tomlinson Report’s suggestions into law. It set up 8 homelands, called “Bantustans”, to be, eventually, completely independent states to remove large portions of the black SA population leaving white SAs the largest racial group.
