Groups Definition
A social unit consisting of 2 or more people who adhere to membership, interaction among members, shared goals, shared norms
Primary group
a smaller group with more emotional bonds - lasts longer - family
Secondary group
more formal - not close - impersonal - larger - group in a class
Group norms
set of expectations or written rules within a groups
helps define identity - work towards shared goals
Social facilitation
tendency for people to perform better in the presence of others
social loafing
The tendency for people to exert less effort when working in a group
Deindividualization
we lose our self-awareness in large groups that foster anonymity

the tendency to shift towards more extreme decisions while in a group of like minded people
