What are the 5 stages of group development : stage model ?
A
- Forming : Members come together for collective goals ; impression management
- Storming : Members compete for roles & power ; individual goals ; poor cohesion
- Norming : members settle into roles ; accepts group norms and set collective goals ; cohesion improves
- Performing : Members fulfill role responsibilities ; perform to normative standards ; strive for collective goals ; cohesive group
- Adjourning : Group disbands or reverts to earlier stage ; evaluation of group sucesss

describe the Input-Process-Output model

- Inputs :
- this takes into account the individual level factors , group level factors and environmental factors
- Process :
- This is the members interactions directed toward task accomplishment
- Output:
- Results and by products of group activity that are valued by one or more constituencies

What is social loafing ?
A
- This is the tendency to withhold physical or intellectual effort when performing a group task due to diffusion of responsibility

What is the free rider effect and the sucker effect ?
A
- Free rider effect : people lower their effort to get a free ride at the expense of their fellow group members
- Sucker effect : people lower their effort because of the feeling that others are free riding
