Collective Identity
• A team can be recognised easily as they are wearing the same uniform/ colour.
• This develops affiliation which creates motivation and a belonging
interaction
■ The way players work together to complete a task
■ Are they loud or quiet
■ Playful or serious
Communication
■ Non verbal and Verbal
■ Coded plays
A shared goal or purpose
■ Achieving a shared goal/ target helps to bind people together so they commit to each other and work hard to achieve the goal, this raises motivation.
Forming
■ Forming – getting to know each other, strengths/ weaknesses, will people fit in
■ Develop Social relationships,
■ Reliant on the coach to bring the group together
■ Figure out the goal
Storming
Storming – Infighting and conflict as people establish roles/ positions
■ Confrontation with leaders
Norming
Norming – cooperation. Conflicts are resolved.
■ The team begins to unify and cooperate focussing on achieving goals.
■ Standards/ Norms are accepted and the cohesion of the team develops
■ Motivation and success rise
Performing
Performing – common goals, success, team support each other and understand their roles
■ Motivation and enjoyment is high
■ Respect for other members and leaders is high
