Grossing (M) Flashcards
What should be done when grossing?
Precise and systematic gross description
What are the aspects / components that should be noted when grossing?
1) Color
2) Size
3) Consistency
4) Shape
What are the crucial parts of the pathologic examinations?
Dissection and selection of sections for microscopic study
Who are the professionals that do the dissection and selection of sections for microscopic study?
Patho who is assisted by MT or histotechnician
Cartilaginous, bony, and hard tissues are placed in the decalcifying solution for what time duration?
For 1 - 7 days
Are the number of bits received noted?
Yes
What are the exs of number of bits received that are noted?
1) Punch biopsies
2) Core needle biopsies
3) Gastric tissues
What are the equipment used to place representative sxs of the tissues in the tissue cassettes?
1) Scalpel
2) Fine pointed forceps
What should be done in each tissue cassettes?
Each should be labeled w/ accession #
What is the purpose of inking the sxs (w/c is integrated into the grossing system)?
To evaluate the margin of resection on microscopy
After grossing, what should be done?
All equipment / instruments should be rinsed w/ H2O and should be wiped clean
What is the purpose of all instruments being rinsed w/ H2O and wiped clean after grossing?
To prevent any mixed up floaters of tissues
What should be done / observed during grossing?
1) Grossing should be performed in a well ventilated and well-lit grossing stations
2) Exhaust and proper light are switched on
3) Proper gloves, mask, and apron should be worn
