Gross Motor Skills - Ch. 5 Flashcards

1
Q

Prone Position

0-2 mo

A

Turns head to side, lifts head momentarily, bends hips with bottom in air, lifts head and sustains in midline, rotates head freely when up, able to bear weight on forearms, able to tuck chin and gaze at hands in forearm prop, and attempts to shift weight on forearms, resulting in shoulder collapse.

Q

Sitting

8-10 mo

A

Sits well without support, legs are closer; full upright position, knees straight, increased variety of sitting positions, including “w” sit and side sit, difficult fine motor tasks may prompt return to wide base of support

Q

Sitting
9-18 mo
10-12 mo

A

9-18 mo - Rises from supine by first rolling over to stomach then pushing up into four-point position
10-12 mo - Protective extension backwards, first with bent elbows then straight elbows, able to move in and out of sitting into other positions

Sitting
11-12 mo
11-24 mo +

A

11-12 mo - Trunk control and equilibrium responses are fully developed in sitting position, further increase in variety of positions
11-24 mo + - Rises from supine by first rolling to the side then pushing up into sitting position

Q

Standing
0-3 mo
2-3 mo
3-4 mo

A

0-3 mo - when held in standing position, takes some weight on legs
2-3 mo - when held in standing position, legs may give way
3-4 mo - bears some weight on legs; but must be held proximally, head is up in midline, no chin tuck, pelvis and hips are behind shoulders, and legs are apart and turned outward

Q

Standing
5-10 mo
5-6 mo
6-12 mo

A

5- 10 mo - Stands while holding onto furniture
5-6 mo - increased capability to bear weight, decreased support needed; may be held by arms or hands, legs are still spread apart and turned outward, bounces in standing position
6 - 12 mo - pulls to standing position at furniture

17
Q

Standing
8-9 mo
9-13 mo
12 mo

A

8-9 mo - rotates the trunk over the LE, LE are more active in pulling to standing, pulls to a standing position by kneeling, then half-kneeling
9-13 mo - pulls to standing position with legs only, no longer needs arms, stands alone momentarily
12 mo - equilibrium reactions are present in standing

18
Q
Walking
8 mo
8-18 mo
9-10 mo
9-17 mo
10-14 mo
A

8 mo - cruises sideways
8-18 mo - walks with 2 hands held
9-10 mo - cruises around furniture, turning slightly in intended direction
9-17 mo - takes independent steps, falls easily
10-14 mo - walking: stoops and recovers in play

19
Q

Walking
11 mo
15 mo
18 mo

A

11 mo - walks with one hand held, reaches for furniture out of reach when cruising, cruises in either direction, no hesitation
15 mo - able to start and stop in walking
18 mo - seldom falls, runs stiffly with eyes on ground

20
Q
Releases
0-1 mo
1-4 mo
4 mo
4-8 mo
5-6 mo

A

0-1 mo - no release, grasp reflex strong
1-4 mo - involuntary release
4 mo - mutual fingering in midline
4-8 mo - transfers objects from hand to hand
5-6 mo - 2-stage transfer: taking hand grasps before releasing hand lets go
6-7 mo - 1-stage transfer: taking hand and releasing hand perform actions simultaneously

21
Q
Releases
7-9 mo
7-10 mo
8 mo
9-10 mo
10-14 mo
12-5 mo
A

7-9 mo - volitional release
7-10 mo - presses down on surface to release
8 mo - releases above a surface with wrist flexion
9-10 mo - releases into a container with wrist straight
10-14 mo - clumsy release into small container; hand rests on edge of container
12-5 mo - precise, controlled release into smaller containers with wrist extended
