Graphical representation Flashcards
Research methods
1
Q
What is a pie chart?
A
- represents data proportionality
- indicates percentages of the population or results from various categories
2
Q
What is a scatter graph?
A
- represent a correlation/relationship between 2 or more co-variables
- plot single points on a graph
- steeper the line, stronger the relationship/correlation
3
Q
What is a distribution curve?
A
- linear representations of data that include mean, median and modal score
- show a spread of data
4
Q
What are the 3 types of distribution curve?
A
- normal distribution
- positive skewed (right)
- negative skewed (left)
5
Q
Describe a normal distribution cure.
A
- where the mean, median and mode are equal
- bell curve
- all scores at the top of curve
6
Q
Describe a positive skewed distribution.
A
- median falls to the right of the mode
- mean to the right of the median
7
Q
Describe a negative skewed distribution.
A
- median falls to the left of the mode
mean to the left of the median
8
Q
What is a line graph?
A
- show a linear representation of frequencies of data
- allow us to see peaks and troughs in data
- trends and patterns
9
Q
what is a bar chart?
A
- represents frequencies of non-continuous data
- bars do not touch
10
Q
What is a histogram?
A
- represents the distribution of frequencies for continuous data
- Y axis= frequency density
- bars touch
- frequency/width= FD
- frequency/FD=width
-FD x width=frequency
11
Q
What is a frequency table?
A
- chart/table which shows the rate of occurrence
e.g how many people own or do not own a pet.
