Grant's Ch. 2 - Axillary Muscles Flashcards
What muscle makes up the medial wall of the axilla?
Serratus anterior
What 3 muscles make up the posterior wall of the axilla?
1) Subscapularis
2) Latissimus dorsi
3) Teres major
What is the medial attachment of the serratus anterior?
Anterior surface of the medial border of the scapula
What is the lateral attachment of the serratus anterior (NOTE: a range of ribs)?
Ribs 1-9 (lateral parts)
List the 2 actions of the serratus anterior.
1) Rotate the glenoid cavity superiorly
2) Protract the scapula
What innervates the serratus anterior?
Long thoracic n.
What is the medial attachment of the subscapularis?
Subscapular fossa
What is the lateral attachment of the subscapularis?
Lesser tubercle of the humerus
What is the action of the subscapularis?
Medially rotate humerus
What are the 2 innervations of the subscapularis?
Upper and lower subscapular nn.
List the 2 medial attachments of the latissimus dorsi.
1) Thoracolumbar fascia
2) Iliac crest
What is the lateral attachment of the latissimus dorsi?
Intertubercular groove (floor)
List the 3 actions of the latissimus dorsi.
1) Extend humerus
2) Adduct humerus
3) Medially rotate humerus
What innervates the latissimus dorsi?
Thoracodorsal n.
What is the medial attachment of the teres major?
Inferior angle of scapula
