Common noun
Nouns the refer to specific people places or things
Proper noun
Nouns that name tangible things you can see, smell, touch, or hear.
Concrete nouns
Nouns that refer to ideas, thoughts, feelings, and principles
abstract nouns
Have ing’s that can turn verbs into nouns
gerunds
These replace or stand in for a noun
pronoun
Pronouns that act as subjects or objects, or they show possession. There are 26 of them
Personal pronouns
Pronouns that introduce dependent clauses. These are clauses that cannot stand alone as a sentence because the thought they express in incomplete.
Relative
A verb that show what a subject does
Action verb
A verb the helps define or describe a subject
Linking Verb
used with participle to form a verb phrase that references time
helping verb
verbs that indicate the manner of, or the attitude toward, an action or the circumstances within a sentence.
modal verbs
a group o fwords that has a subject, verb, and expresses a complete thought.
independent clause
adverbs that indicate a relation or link between two independent clauses.
Conjunctive adverbs
join words, phrases ideas, and independent clauses wiht equal emphasis
coordinating conjunctions
