The land of Canaan which God promised to Abraham and his descendants
Covenant
a solemn promise or agreement made between two people/groups, that requires commitments from both sides
Who is Abraham known as
The ‘father of many nations’, and is regarded as the founder of Judaism
What 3 promises did God make to Abraham?
-multiplying his family and blessing all the families on the Earth (Genesis)
-Giving Abraham the promised land
-protecting Abraham and being his greatest reward
Why are the three promises God made to Abraham important/what was required of him?
-For him to leave his country
-To walk with God, trust him, and love him
-To sacrifice his only son
What did Abraham do to prove his acceptance of the covenant?
He proved his acceptance of the covenant by being circumcised himself and by circumcising all the males in his household

Gen 17:12: “You shall be circumcised through the flesh of your foreskin, this shall be the mark of the covenant between me and you”

What does the covenant do for Jewish people
It binds and unites the Jewish people, and is a physical mark of the covenant
3 ways Abraham was obedient to God
-He was prepared to sacrifice Isaac
-He left his home for Canaan as he was commanded
-Abraham did everything God commanded, and Jews believe that they should do the same
What was given to Abraham as a reward for his faith and obedience
The promised land is given as a reward for Abraham’s faith, and Jewish people are blessed by God because of their obedience to the covenant
