C1 Christian Worship Flashcards
Liturgical Worship
Worship that follows a set structure, with set prayers, actions, and responses
(same recognizable pattern no matter the language; uniting)
Non-Liturgical Worship
Worship with a less structured approach, sometimes even spontaneous worship (more mindful as it doesn’t have a routine- from the heart/more personal)
Roman Catholic Worship
Transformation of the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ. Most Anglican’s believe Jesus’ death to have been a single event in time, never to be repeating and yet effective throughout all time
Quaker Meeting
A meeting will last approximately an hour. People enter and take a seat in silence. In this silence, the Quakers believe that they are able to come closer to God. During worship people may choose to speak, pray, or read aloud. This meeting comes to an end when two Quakers shake hands.
Greek Orthodox
Separated into two major sections: The first section is the ‘Liturgy of the word’. This contains hymns, prayers and a reading from the bible set for that day.
Methodist Worship
Services are similar to those of the Anglican church. Some of these churches have a less structured service. All people are welcome to participate in communion
