Goal setting Flashcards

1
Q

Why is setting goals helpful when planning a PDP (3)

(Why is it important to set goals before a training programme?)

A
  • It will give a specific focus on the PDP, can fully focus on the specified weakness that they need to improve and select relevant approaches that complements their goal.
  • boost motivation levels, performer will want to achieve their goals and give 100% effort into every session and also ask their coach for further feedback to improve… also leading performers to do extra training outside the training ground to improve on their weakness

-track an monitor progress. Meaning performers can assess hoe effective their development plan is by seeing if they have reached their goals… if they have found that they are reaching their goals then it can give them a confidence boost and set even higher goals in the future to ensure they don’t have a plateau.

Q

Explain what a performer may consider when setting goals for the physical factor
(4)
(Just adapt to which factor the question gives)

A

Specific and not as a general statement- can focus more closely on a certain element of their physical weakness and give them a clear aim which can leave them to improving that area.

  • measurable and contain figures that can be compared against, easier for them to measure if they have met their physical goal and can help them consider when meeting their next goal as they can adjust their figures based on the success of the previous session

-adjustable and not set in stone. This means that illnesses and injury can be took into account and can be taken into consideration and be amended to better suit the performer

  • realistic to their ability. Target is challenging but not overstretching which can ensure that they remain motivated for improving… meaning they can give 100% in all sessions as they know improvement is in their reach and will be able to get through the tough areas of their target.

Q

Why set goals (4)

A

-identifies strengths and weaknesses. This creates a PDP relevant to the weakness
-provides a baseline measurement (starting point). Compare re-test results later to measure your progress
-use the results to set realistic goals. Motivation boost and give 100% in sessions
-gives each training session a specific focus. This can help track and monitor progress
