What is the purpose for for the rules and regulations of the general manual?
These rules are designed to promote efficiency, discipline, and good public relations by setting forth policies governing the conduct and demeanor of every member of the police dept, both on and off duty?

2 Days
What are the guidelines for treatment of prisoners?
Prisoners shall be treated in their legal rights, given humane treatment, and not subject to verbal abuse or physical violence.
If involved in a Professional Standard investigation, what are you advised of?
The report is for departmental purposes only
The report will not be used against them in a subsequent criminal investigation or prosecution
If you fail to give a report, a direct order will be given, and failure will result in disciplinary action
Can you display your firearm while not in uniform?
either on or off duty, officers are not allowed to display a weapon on the outside of clothing in such a manor to cause alarm
When can an officer discharge a firearm?
At target practice
To destroy an animal under dept procedures
In defense of one’s life or to protect another
To hunt wild game, in accordance with State Laws
What activities are officers prohibited from under suspension?
Cannot wear any part of the SAPD uniform
Represent themselves as member of SAPD
Carry or display their badge or ID
Engage in outside employment or extension of police services
Exercise the power or authority of a police officer in San Antonio
When is sexual misconduct prohibited?
On duty In uniform Off Duty Representing SAPD In a mentoring capacity Using their position as a PO
When are you subject to duty?
Officers will consider themselves available for duty in any emergency situation, regardless of duty status.
Members SHALL report the following incidents immediately.
Traffic crashes in city vehicles On duty injuries Off duty injuries Injury or property damage by members Incidents where the city may be liable Danger to public health or safety Suit or legal process against the member Damage to city property
What information can be restricted from an officers report?
Matters relating to investigative techniques or procedures
Opinions or judgements of the officer
Facts to identify suspects or informants
Information that should be confidential and relates to investigations
What are responsibilities of internal investigations?
Formal- non criminal
Investigations of members- members belief another member should be investigated
preliminary investigations- performed by supervisory officers
