Glycolysis (Chapter 16) Flashcards
Function of Hexokinase
To phosphorylate glucose into glucose 6-phosphate
Function of phosphoglucose isomerase
To convert glucose 6-phosphate into fructose 6-phosphate
Function of phosphofructokinase
To phosphorylate fructose 6-phosphate into fructose 1,6-bisphosphate
Function of aldolase
To cleave fructose 1,6-bisphosphate into glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate
Function of triose phosphate isomerase
To convert dyhydroxyacetone phosphate into glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate
Function of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase
To phosphorylate glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate into 1,3 bisphosphoglycerate (and convert NAD+ into NADH?)
Function of phosphoglycerate kinase
To dephosphorylate 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate into 3-phosphoglycerate
Function of phosphoglycerate mutase
Converts 3-phosphoglycerate into 2-phosphoglycerate mutase
Function of enolase
To dehydrate (remove an H2O molecule from) 2-phosphoglycerate to change it into phosphoenolpyruvate
Function of pyruvate kinase
To dephosphorylate phopsoenolpyruvate into pyruvate
Where is GLUT2 found?
Liver and pancreatic beta cells
Where is GLUT4 found?
Muscle and fat cells
What degrades lactose?
Lactase (b-galactosidase) to galactose and glucose
How is sucrose degraded, and to what?
Sucrose (invertase) converted to glucose and fructose
How is maltose degraded?
Malatase, to two glucose
