Glossary of Terms V Flashcards
Parallel Circuit
An electrical circuit that has more than one path for current to flow by the arrangement of electrical load devices where all positive terminals are joined together and all negative terminals are joined together so that each load device has its own path across-the-linr.
Series Circuit
An electrical circuit that has only one path for current to flow by the arrangement of electrical load devices on a single path where negative terminals are joined by the positive terminal of the next device so that each load device is inline with each other.
Ohm’s Law
Mathematical formula discovered by George Simon Ohm that describes the relationship between voltage, current and resistance in an electrical circuit.
Armature
The part of an electric motor, generator, or relay which is moved by magnetism.
Chatter
Noise produced from the rapid opening and closing of a set of contacts.
Control Circuit
Circuit that controls a load in main circuit
Current Relay
Relay that opens or closes in a circuit by acting to a change of current flow in a circuit
Main Circuit
The circuit of a piece of equipment that contains load devices controlled from another circuit
Core
Iron center in the wire coil of a transformer
Eddy Current
Induced currents flowing in an iron core of smaller circular flows of electricity that moves contrary to the main flow
