Glossary of Terms IX Flashcards
Detent Action
A device that is added to a control contacts that allow the contacts to snap open or closed quickly instead of slowly. (Also referred to as snap action)
Differential
Difference between the cut-in and cut-out
Heat Anticipator
Adjustable resistor heating element that is wired in series to operate when the system is on to allow the thermostat to turn the system off sooner to prevent overshoot caused by lag
Low Voltage thermostat
Typical 24 volt thermostat used for air conditioning and heating applications
Mercury bulb
Glass bulb containing a small amount of mercury and electrical contacts to make or break an electrical circuit
Override
The programmed settings bypass of a programmable thermostat
Overshoot
Conditioned space temperature that is higher than desired due to system lag
Programmable Thermostat
Electronic thermostat designed to provide a series of desired temperature conditions at different times of day
Range
The operating limits of a switch or control door
Setback
Lowering of the temperature set point for the conservation of heating energy for nighttime or unoccupied periods
