Glossary of Terms I Flashcards
Alternating Current (AC)
An electrical current in which the direction of the electron flow changes on a cyclical basis.
Amperage
Unit measurement for current flow in an electrical circuit
Conductor
A material through which current will flow easily
Current
The flow rate of electrons in an an electrical circuit
Direct Current (DC)
An electrical current that flows in only one direction and has constant magnitude.
Dynamic Electricity
The movement of electrons that creates current flow
Electricity
A natural occurrence resulting from the motion of electrons due to heat, induction, or chemical action
Electromagnet
A coil of wire wound around an iron core which produces a magnetic field when an electrical current is sent through the coil.
Electromotive Force (EMF)
The force which causes electrons in a conductor to move. Also called VOLTAGE or POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE
Electron
A negatively charged atomic particle.
