Glossary of Terms III Flashcards
Across the Line
The connection of a branch circuit to a power source
Branch Circuit
A circuit which provides an additional path for current flow across the line
Coil
An electrical device consisting of a wrap or winding of wire used to convert electrical energy into a magnetic field
Connection
The point where two or more wires are joined together
Contactor
Similar to a relay, but the contacts of a contactor are rated for amperages of 10 amps or more
Continuity
A complete path for electrons to flow in a circuit or component
Fuse
A device that opens a circuit by melting when too much current flow through it
Line Voltage
The voltage supplied to electrical equipment as the power supply
Motor
A device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy
Voltage
The amount of electrical potential difference between two points
