31
Q

Name these three engine compartment sections

A
32
Q

Name 4 items found in the accessory compartment

A

Accessory gearbox
Oil tank
Starter/generator
Battery

33
Q

Why is the engine called a “Free Turbine”?

A

Free turbine refers to the fact that the compressor and power turbines are not physically connected. Air movement from one turbine to the other provides power to the propeller

34
Q

Why is the engine called a “Reverse Flow”?

A

Reverse flow design refers to the flow of air through the engine. Air enters the engine at the rear and moves forward during the combustion cycle

35
Q

What is the PMU?

A

Power Management Unit

The PMU processes power requests from the PCL and keeps the engine and propeller within operating limits.

In addition, the PMU determines available power and provides a near linear power response between the PCL IDLE and MAX positions.

36
Q

How can you change thrust, if the propeller is always spinning at the same speed?

A

The PMU and the Propeller Interface Unit (PIU) control propeller speed (NP) to maintain a constant propeller speed of 2000 RPM (100% NP) and achieve varying levels of thrust by automatically adjusting propeller pitch.

37
Q

Where is the EDM?

A
38
Q

What is this?

A

The EDM (Engine Data Manager)

39
Q

How many static wicks on the T-6?

A

17 (4 on each wing, 3 on the rudder, and 3 on each vertical stabilizer)

40
Q

What is the minimum strut extension on the nose gear?

A

2.5 inches

41
Q

What is the minimum strut extension on the main gear?

A

2 inches

42
Q

How many antennas on the T-6?

A

11 Total

43
Q

How much more fuel can you add if you use over the wing gravity fueling?

A

“Fuel capacity is approximately 50 pounds greater in each wing (100 pounds total) using this method if each wing tank is filled to the base of the filler neck.”

44
Q

What are these and what do they do?

A

“Pre-check valves next to the single point adapter (Figure 7-5) route fuel directly to the respective pilot valve to test the automatic shutoff function. When each valve is opened by ground personnel prior to refueling, fuel flows directly to the respective pilot valve, which in turn shuts down refueling in a matter of seconds.”

45
Q

What is this?

A

PMA (Permanent Magnet Alternator). The primary power source for the PMU comes from the Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA), which is mounted on the reduction gearbox.

46
Q

Where does the PMU get power if the PMA fails?

A

If the PMA fails, power is provided through the 28 VDC battery bus.

47
Q

How much brake wear is acceptable?

A

“Wear indicators should protrude above housing.” Technique: if your fingernail can catch on it, it’s good enough.

48
Q

How many break wear indicators are there?

A
  1. 2 per main gear?
49
Q

When doing your walk-around, how many pins should be stowed in the baggage compartment?

A

3

50
Q

When doing your walk-around, aside from the 781 Forms, what are you checking for in the baggage compartment?

A

3 pins stowed in the pouch to the left, and that the fuel card matches the tail number and is stowed in the pouch on the right.

51
Q

How much power is supplied to the PMU from the PMA

A

32 VAC, which the PMU converts to DC

52
Q

Where is the chip detector?

A

Reduction Gearbox

53
Q

What does the chip detector do?

A

It detects metal particles in the oil and warns the pilot of possible gear damage.

54
Q

What does the amber OIL PX annunciator indicate?

A

“An amber OIL PX annunciator illuminates when oil pressure is between 15 and 40 psi at IDLE power or between 40 and 90 psi for 10 seconds above IDLE power.”

55
Q

What does the red OIL PX annunciator indicate?

A

“If oil pressure is 15 psi or below at IDLE power, or 40 psi or below above IDLE, the red OIL PX annunciator illuminates.”

56
Q

What is indicated when both the amber and red OIL PX annunciators illuminate?

A

“If oil pressure remains between 15 and 40 psi at IDLE power for 5 seconds or more, both the red and amber OIL PX annunciators illuminate.”
