what is the difference between GER (gastroesophageal reflux) and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)?
A
GER- the passage of gastric content into the esophagus.
GERD- chronic from of GER but you have tissue damage to respiratory structures which can lead to pneumonia and bronchospasms

the nurse should place the GER patient in what position?
A
upright position feedings and at night

what’s another position that’s good for GER?
A
prone with the head elevated because it reduces reflux and is good for stomach emptying.

why would we want to avoid putting the child in a car seat after feedings?
A
it increases intra-abdominal pressure
