Acyanotic defect (Ventricular septal defect) VSD Flashcards
which side of the heart is always stronger? left or right?
left side is always stronger
this is where there’s an ___ between the right and left ventricle.
opening
because there’s an opening in the ventricles, what happens when the left ventricle is pushing blood out to the left aorta?
it also pushes blood back into the right ventricle
what happens to the volume of the right ventricle?
the volume increases in the right ventricle, so that means the right ventricle now has to work harder to pump blood , and this can lead to right sided heart failure.
when does this usually close?
this usually closes spontaneously during the 1st year of life
how do we know someone has it?
they may have signs of heart failure, or have a significant murmur
