Do we give dig with food?
no. give it 1 hour before or 2 hours after feedings
can I mix it with fluid? why?
no. DO NOT MIX WITH FOOD OR FLUID
- because we don’t know if the baby will take all of his/her food or fluid, and we may have left over. as a result, not take all of the med.
what do you do if you are 4 hours past due on your dose?
hold the dose and give the next dose on time
if you’re giving the baby digoxin, and the baby vomits. do you draw up more of the med to give?
NO!
we don’t know how much of the med they lost when puking.
what if the baby misses 2 doses in a row?
call the MD or ARNP
Before administering digoxin to a baby, what must we do?
check the dose with another nurse
