What are the basic types of tissue?
Epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous tissue
What are the three layer of mucosa?
Epithelium, lamina propria and muscularis mucosae
What are the layers of the gut tube?
Mucosa, submucosa, muscularis externa and adventitia/serosa
What type of epithelium is found in the oesophagous?
Stratified squamous non-keratinised epithelium
Where are the glands found in the oesophagus?
Submucosa
What type of muscle is found in the oesophagus?
Top 1/3 - skeletal
Middle 1/3 - skeletal + smooth
Low 1/3 - smooth
What type of epithelium is found in the stomach?
Simple columnar epithelium
Where are the gastric epithelium?
Mucosa
What is the function of parietal cells?
To secrete HCl
What is the function of chief cells?
To secrete pepsinogen
What are Peyer’s Patches?
Lymphoid aggregations in the mucosa of the small intestine
Where are Brunner’s gland?
Duodenum
Are there villi in the large intestine?
No
