What are the 4 layers of the Digestive tract? What do they do?
- Mucosa: Protect, Secrete, Absorb
- Submucosa: Control of and contribution to mucosal
- Muscularis Externa: generates peristalsis
- Serosa or adventitia: reduces frictional forces
What is contained in the mucosa?
- Epithelium
- Lamina propria
- Muscularis mucosae
What happens to the stomach during development?
Liver forces stomach to rotate 90 degrees clockwise.
What happens with the GI tract during development?
Herniates out into the umbilicus. Rotates counter clockwise 270 degrees.
What is vovulus?
Rotational anomalies during GI development.
What can happen during Meckel’s Diverticulum?
could get a cyst, fistula, or ligament.
What is a persistent anal membrane, persistent cloaca, and anal atresia?
Membrane=Membrane over anus doesn’t apoptose.
Cloaca=septum between Gi and urinary tract dont form all the way.
Atresia= lack of development of anal canal.
How does the liver form?
forms as endodermal thickening.
How much does the pancreas rotate?
270 degrees.
What is gastroschisis?
Guts outside of the body.
What is an omphalocele?
Herniation of guts into umbilicus.
What is apple-peel atresia?
Internal vovulus.
