GI Anatomy Flashcards
Location of the Liver
Right Hypochondrium, epigastric and extends to the left Hypochondrium Lies under ribs 7 to 11
Where is the bare area of the liver? What is located in the bare area?
Upper left, where the liver is in direct contact with the diaphragm. The IVC
What holds the liver up?
The falciform ligament (attach anterior) The coronary and triangular ligaments (attach superior liver) The IVC
What is attached to the lesser omentum?
The liver, stomach and proximal part of the duodenum
What travels through the liver hilum?
(Located between C and Q lobes) All neurovascular structures excluding the hepatic veins: Right/Left Hepatic Ducts Hepatic Artery Portal Veins
Name the lobes of the liver
Left
Right
Caudate
Quadrate
Where does the Gallbladder lie?
Right Hypochondrium Inbetween the Right and Quadrate lobes
What does the Gallbladder do?
Temporary storage, concentrates and releases bile
Describe the Biliary tree
Left/Right Hepatic Ducts Common Hepatic Duct Cystic Duct joins Common Bile Duct Pancreatic Duct joins Bile Duct Drains into the Liver, regulated by sphincter of Oddi, into the major duodenal papilla
What is the supply of the Gallbladder?
Cystic Artery and Vein Celiac Plexus Vagus Nerve
Location of the Pancreas
Retroperitoneal (except tail) Uncinate process is posterior to the superior mesenteric vessels
Supply of the Pancreas
Pancreatic branches of the Splenic artery SM branches of the hepatic portal vein Splenic Vein
What is the pancreas?
A glandular organ with exo and endocrine portions
What are the branches that form the Hepatic Portal Vein?
The Superior Mesenteric
The Inferior Mesenteric
The Splenic Vein
Describe the location of the spleen
Upper left abdomen Connected to stomach and kidney by the greater omentum Intraperitoneal
