  • he was the chancellor, most powerful and loved man in Germany
  • led army to victory in 1871

Why were the social democrats a problem to Kaiser ?

A

-they believed that Reichstag should have more power and wanted Reichstag to make LAWS!

1914- SDP were the largest party in reichstag

they believed in SOCIALISM, everything shared equally

  • gaps between rich and poor were larger
  • talk of revolution and workers began to riot
  • ex-soldiers believed Germany had been stabbed in the back and could’ve won the war.

  • many people did not like democracy and wanted communism back
  • ARTICLE 48- ALLOWED PRESIDENT TO DO WHAT HE WANTS
  • PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION-arguments with parties, difficult to pass laws

What was the Spartacist Uprising ?

A
  • communist group
  • took over Berlin in 1919, Ebert fled
  • Free Corps killed them, including Rosa Luxemborg
  • Free corps did not like Ebert or democracy but hated communists more

What was the Kapp Putsch ?

A
  • Wolfgang Kapp gathered 5000 old soldiers (mostly Free corps) and marched to Berlin
  • believed SPD had stabbed Germany in back, thought they could’ve won
  • Ebert told workers to go on strike (hated soldiers and Free corps more than Ebert) which forced Kapp to flee
