Mainstreaming
The process of ideological alignment of people’s values to mesh with the culture and society they inhabit
Resonance
PPl find examples of their own lives that appear to correlate with what they see on TV, creating an amplifying effect on perceptions of the world around them- their experiences, thoughts, and feelings, seem congruous with what they see on TV
Mean World Syndrome
Where people believe that the world is far more dangerous than it really is, usually as a result of resonance
Desensitisation
When an audience is repeatedly exposed to shocking or violent content and are shocked less by it
Compassion fatigue
When a person repeatedly subjected to a situation or media that would usually elicit an empathetic response stops being affected to the same degree
Enculturation
The adjustment of people’s values to mesh with the culture of the society they inhabit
