Primary sexual characteristics
are organs that are necessary for reproduction and include the uterus, ovaries, vagina, testes, and penis
Secondary sexual characteristics
are not directly related to reproduction, but differentiate males from females and include pubic hair, voice change, and breasts.
vesical reflex
refers to the sensation of a need to urinate when the bladder is moderately distended.
Luteinizing hormone
promotes ovulation along with estrogen/progesterone synthesis from the corpus luteum in females. The hormone promotes testosterone synthesis in males.
anuria
inadequate urine output in 24-hour period; less than 100 ml
severe dehydration, shock, ESRD
benign prostatic hypertrophy
non-cancerous enlargement of prostate gland that is progressive, common in males of 60, can interfere with normal voiding
cystocele
bulging of bladder into vagina
ectopic
implantation of fertilized ovum outside uterus, most common in fallopian tube

inner lining of uterus that is shed monthly in women
glomerular filtration rate
estimate of filtering capacity of the kidneys; volume of filtrate produced per minute
