Genetics Flashcards
complete dominance
dominant allele has the same phenotypic effect whether it’s present in 1 or 2 copies (BB will have the same phenotype as Bb)
Incomplete dominanace
Heterozygotes have their own genotype (ex red and white flowers produce pink heterozygotes)
epistasis
a gene on one locus affects the phenotypic expression of a gene on another locus (one gene encodes for lab colour another gene codes for whether this colour will be expressed or not)
sex-linked inheritence
genes present on sex chromosomes will have unique inheritance patterns, male traits rely souly on the gene given by the mother while females have an extra X and are able mask the ressesive allele easier
How many X chromosomes are active in the female body?
1 the other is shut off at random early on in mitotic division. (called a barr body)
What are linked genes?
genes that are near eachother on the chromosome will be inherited together.
