What is a Gene ?
A section of DNA that determines the structure of a polypeptide.
What is an Allele?
A possible variant of the gene
What is ment by the term Genotype?
All of the genetic information within an organism
What is ment by the term Phenotype?
The physical and biochemical characteristics of an organism.
This will be determined by the Genotype but will be influenced by the environment.
What does the term “ Dominant” mean when describing phenotypes?
A phenotype which is expressed whenever one dominant allele coding for it is present.
What is ment by the term “recessive” when describing the phenotype?
A phenotype which is only expressed when both alleles are coding for the phenotype.
What is ment by the term Homozygous?
A genotype in which both alleles for a gene are the same.
What is ment by the term Heterozygous?
A genotype where the two alleles are different
What is the term used to describe a Homozygous individual?
A homozygote
What is the term used to describe a Heterozygous individual?
A Hetrozygote
