What are some disorders?
A
Inherited.

Polydactyly?
A
Individual has extra fingers or toes.

What is the allele for polydactyly?
A
Dominant, so it can be passed on by only one parent who has the disorder.

A
Disorder of the cell membranes.

Why must cystic fibrosis be inherited from both parents?
A
As it is recessive.

What can you do to embryos?
A
Screen them for alleles which cause genetic disorders.

A
- stop people’s suffering
- laws to stop it going too far
- most embryos are destroyed in IVF anyway - screening just allows it to be healthy
- treating disorders cost the government a lot of money

A
- people may start screening to pick their most desirable baby
- rejected embryos are destroyed, they could have been potential humans
- screening is expensive
- it implies that living with disorders are “undesirable” and this increases prejudice
