Aerobic respiration Flashcards
1
Q
Formula?
A
Oxygen + glucose -> carbon dioxide + water (+ energy).
2
Q
What are chemicals inside the body controlled by?
A
Enzymes.
3
Q
Where does aerobic respiration happen?
A
Continually in plants and animals.
4
Q
Where do most reactions in aerobic respiration take place?
A
In mitochondria.
5
Q
How is energy used in aerobic respiration? 4
A
- build larger molecules from smaller ones
- enable muscles to contract
- maintain a steady body temperature in cold surroundings
- build up sugars, nitrates and other nutrients into amino acids which are then built into proteins
6
Q
What happens during exercise? 2
A
- depth and rate of breathing increases
* heart rate increases
7
Q
What do the changes during exercise increase?
A
Supply of blood flow to the muscles of sugars and oxygen, and increase the removal of carbon dioxide.
8
Q
What do muscles store glucose as?
A
Glycogen.
9
Q
When can glycogen be converted back to glucose?
A
During exercise.
