General 3710.7 Flashcards
When must position lights be turned on?
30 minutes before sunset to 30 minutes after sunrise, or when visibility is less than 3 sm. (turn on prior to engine start)
When must anti-collision lights be turned on?
From engine start to engine shutdown except when their use adversely effects ground operations or while flying through clouds
When must the landing/taxi lights be turned on?
Landing/taxi lights should be utilized for all taxi
movements ashore during the hours of darkness unless
a taxi signalman is directing the aircraft.
Recommended during landing approaches in class B, C, D
What is the airspeed limit below 10k’ MSL in US airspace?
250 KIAS
Where is the airspeed limit 200 KIAS?
At or below 2,500’ AGL w/in 4nm of primary airport for C or D airspace, in the airspace underlying class B, or in a VFR corridor through class B.
When are military aircraft authorized to exceed the 250 KIAS airspeed limit below 10k’ MSL?
Within restricted areas, within MOAs, when operating on DOD/FAA mutually developed and published routes, when operating on VR routes, on large scale exercises or short term special missions approved by appropriate commanders, or when the minimum safe airspeed in NATOPS is greater than the speed limit.
What is required if the aircraft experiences a malfunction of navigational, approach, or communication equipment ?
Notify ATC of the (1) Equipment affected, (2) Degree to which the capability of the pilot to operate under IFR in the ATC system is impaired; and (3) Nature and extent of assistance desired from ATC. (FAR 91.187)
What are IFR takeoff mins?
Published minimums for the available NPA, but not less than 300-foot ceiling and 1-statute mile visibility.
If a precision approach is available: precision approach
minimums, but no less than 200-foot ceiling and 1/2 SM visibility/2,400 RVR.
When is an alternate airfield required?
When weather at the destination is less than 3000’ ceiling and 3 statute mile visibility during the period of 1 hr before ETA until 1 hr after ETA.
If weather at destination is forecast to be less than published minimums, what min weather is required at your alternate?
3,000 - 3 or better at ETA+/- 1 hr
What are absolute weather minimums for single-piloted aircraft?
200 - 1/2
If weather at destination is forecast to be greater than published mins, but less than 3000 - 3, what weather is required at an alternate with a precision approach?
Published mins plus 200 - 1/2
If weather at destination is forecast to be greater than published mins, but less than 3000 - 3, what weather is required at an alternate with a non-precision approach?
Published mins plus 300 - 1
Can a PAR/ASR approach be used as the basis for alternate weather minimums?
For single-piloted aircraft, No.
What shall be done if forecast icing or thunderstorm conditions exist along the route of flight?
The flight shall be planned to circumvent those conditions
What is the min required fuel for a flight that does not require an alternate?
Fuel to fly from takeoff to destination plus a reserve of 10% of planned fuel requirements.
What is the min required fuel for a flight that requires an alternate?
Fuel to fly from takeoff to the destination IAF, then to an alternate airfield plus a reserve of 10% of planned fuel requirements.
Aside from the 10% fuel reserve requirement, what is the other stipulation (turbine fixed wing)?
Planned fuel reserve after landing must not be less than that needed for 20 minutes of flight based on max endurance operation at 10,000’
When is it acceptable to commence an approach when the reported weather is below minimums?
Multi-piloted aircraft (not T-6B), only if the are able to proceed to an alternate in the event of a missed approach.
Or, for practice approaches with an appropriate clearance as long as the facility in question is not the filed destination or alternate.
If weather deteriorates below minimums after commencing an approach, may a single-piloted aircraft continue the approach?
Yes, they may continue to published minimums, but no less than 200 - 1/2 or 2400RVR
When may you descend blow MDA or continue below DA during an instrument approach?
When you (1) have the runway environment in sight and (2) a safe landing can be executed
When are you required to execute a missed approach?
When you reach the DA or MAP and do not meet landing criteria (runway environment in sight & able to make a safe landing), or when you are instructed by ATC to execute a missed approach
