Gene Regulation Flashcards
what is gene regulation?
when genes must be controlled in response to life cycles and enviromental conditions
what are house keeping genes
unregulated genes that must constantly be transcribed and translated
levels of gene regulation
- transcription level
- post transcription/ pre translation
- translation level
- post translation
gene regulation at transcription level
controls which genes are transcribed
post transcription regulation
controls the preperation of mRNA (capping and tailing)
translation level regulation
controls the translation of mRNA into amino acids
post translation regulation
- controls the functionality of proteins
(prevents vesicles from being formed or prevents the vesicles from entering the golgi body)
what does the Golgi body do
the polypeptide chain enters the Golgi body to be folded via a vesicle
promoter
indicates/allows RNA polymerase to bind to the DNA
Operator
where the repressor will bind to the DNA
Repressor
prevents RNA polymerase from binding to the DNA in return it prevents transcription
