Hostile Sexism
• Explicit antagonistic attitude towards women
Benevolent Sexism
• more “positive”, but often portrays women as incompetent, weak & on a pedestal for men.

• Results: women harshly judged, said that they needed to be more feminim
The “backlash” effect
When a women uses a technique a typical male technique to advance & are judged even more negatively than women who did not use the technique
Benevolent Sexism & Rape blame
• those who support benevolent sexism more likely to blame rape victims
Gender expectations & leadership (Rudman & Glick, 2001)
- both men & women rated as highly competent
* men liked more & hired more than women
The “glass cliff”
• women more likely to be hired in risky situations/ organizations in crisis compared to men.
Self objectification
objectification of women’s bodies causes women to adopt in outsiders view of themselves.
Consequences of self-objetification
- anxiety, regard to appearance
- increased body shame
- restrained eating
- disruptive cognitive function
