GCSE Cell Biology Flashcards
Where is DNA found in animal cells?
Nucleus
What is the function of mitochondria?
Cellular Respiration
What is the function of chloroplasts?
Photosynthesis for respiration
What is the function of ribosomes?
Protein synthesis
What is the function of the cellulose cell wall?
Protects and supports the cell
How is DNA stored in prokaryotic cells?
As a loop of DNA
How are electron microscopes different to light microscopes?
Electron microscopes use beams of electrons on dead samples and are very expensive, but have higher magnification and resolution
What is the function of a red blood cell?
Transport oxygen around the body
Give two adaptations of a nerve cell.
Branched endings, myelin sheath insulates the axon
Give two adaptations of a palisade cell
Lots of chloroplasts, at the top of the leaf
What are the two types of eukaryotic cell?
Animal and plant
What type of cell are bacteria?
Prokaryotic
What is the function of the cell membrane?
To control what enters and exits the cell
Give three adaptations of a red blood cell
No nucleus, red due to haemoglobin, biconcave disc shape
What is the function of a nerve cell?
Carries electrical impulses around the body
