What is GI perforation?
A GI perforation is a hole which has formed all the way through the wall of any part of the GI tract
What are the RFs for GI perforation?
Previous GI infection Ulcer Gallstones IBD Cancer Blunt trauma Drugs such as NSAIDs or steroids Endoscopy
What are the signs and symptoms of GI perforation?
Stomach pain Chills Fever Nausea Vomiting Fatigue
What is the epidemiology of GI perforation?
Not very common spontaneously
What are the appropriate investigations for GI perforation?
Bloods- leuckocytosis, Anaemia, electrolyte imabalance, acid level imbalance, Kidney and liver dysfunction

What is the management plan for GI perforation?
Fix underlying issues
Remove foreing material from peritoneum (faeces, bile, food)
Colectomy with colostomy
Antibiotics
What are the complications of a GI perforation?
Peritonitis Bleeding Sepsis Abscesses Wound infection Bowel infarction
What is the prognosis of someone with a GI perforation?
Age, IBD and bleeding along with poor nutrition decrease prognosis
Peritonitis decreases prognosis and so do steroids
