What is Gastritis?
Gastritis is defined as the histological presence of gastric mucosal inflammation.
What is the prognosis of gastritis?
Prognosis is dependent upon underlying aetiology and type of gastritis. (Phlegmonous gastritis is bad)
What are the risk factors of gastritis?
H Pyloris NSAIDs Toxins Previous gastric surgery Critically ill patients Autoimmune disease
What are the signs and symptoms of gastritis?
Dyspepsia Absence of malignacy Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite Fever Acute abdominal pain Altered reflexes Glossitis Cognitive impairment
What is the epidemiology of gastritis?
In the United States, dyspeptic symptoms affect up to 25% of the population; non-ulcer dyspepsia (including gastritis) contributes to the diagnosis in about 50% of patients referred for upper endoscopy.
What are the investigations you would do for gastritis?
H Pyloris breath or stool test
FBC (anaemia)
Endoscopy
B12
What is the management of gastritis?
Anti-secretaory agents
H Pylori eradication therapy
H2 antagonist or PPI
Cyanocobalamin (autoimmune)
