A
- responsible for initating digestion
- both mechanical (chewing) and chemical (saliva)

throat or the passageway for the food between the oral cavity and the esophagus (part of respiratory system)

- muscular tube connecting the mouth to the stomach
- uses wavelike contractions called peristalsis to move food into the stomach

- continues breakdown using gastric acid
- moves food to small intestine
- contains rugae (folds w/n the lining of stomach)
- located below the diaphragm in the LUQ

- takes most space in abdominal cavity
- responsible for absorption of nutrients

- called colon
- absorption is completed
- feces formed
