Gastric Motility and Secretions Flashcards
Describe the receptive relaxation reflex
Part of the storing phase.
Initiated by swallowing causing the vagus nerve to relax the stomach in anticipation of food.
*Non cholinergic, non adernergic.
Describe Gastric Accomodation
The second part of the storing phase, the stomach enlarges even more following reception of food!
Fundus is mostly dilating under ENS and Vagus control.
What effect does Secretin have on the stomach and what initiates its response?
Released in response to HCL in the duodenum, it serves to impair gastric emptying.
What effect does CCK have on the stomach and what stimulates its response?
CCK is stimulated by fat content in the duodenum. It serves to slow gastric emptying by use of NO.
What effect does Gastrin have on the stomach and what stimulates its action?
Gastrin is stimulated by protein in the stomach!
Causes the stomach to slow emptying by use of 5HT and VIP.
What stimulates ENS activity in the stomach to delay gastric emptying?
Duodenal distention!
What are the key neurotransmitters in the emetic response?
Acetylcholine
Histamine
Serotonin
Dopamine
What are the two emetic zones that recieve emetic information?
The Chemoreceptor trigger zone
and
The emetic center!
What is Gastroparesis?
Impaired motility of the stomach associated with impairements in the pyloric region or pyloric sphincter.
Can be related to diabeties or infantile pyloric stenosis.
