Gait Flashcards
Initial Contact
Hip: 25˚F- Stabilised by extensor activity of HS and Glutes
Knee: 0 - 5˚F -Stabilised by co-contraction of Quads & HS
Ankle: 0 (90) ˚ Ankle pre-tibial
DF to position for contact
Loading response
HS > FF
Hip: 25F˚
- Hip ABD stabilise pelvic drop in frontal plane
- Hip E counteract trunk and hip flexion
Knee: 0-15˚ F
Quads control knee F providing shock absorption
Ankle: 0-10˚ PF
Ankle DF decelerate foot drop
Tib Ant/Post eccentrically decelerate pronation
Midstance
FF > midstance
Hip: 25-0˚ F
Hip ABD minimises pelvic drop in frontal plane
Knee: 15-0˚ F
Quads resist knee flexion until COG passes over BOS, then they are silent
Ankle: 10 PF to 5 DF˚
Soleus and gastroc eccentrically controls tibial forward progression
Midstance
midstance > HO
Hip: 0-10/15 E˚
Brief burst from hip F resisting hip E
TFL active to resist pelvic drop
Knee: 0-5˚ F
Minimal quad or HS (passive tension/slight eccentric hold)
Ankle: 5˚ DF
Ankle PF breaks tibial translation & contribute to passive tension to raise heel
Pre-swing
Hip: 20-0˚ E
Hip flexion via momentum and gravity with ADD longus & Rec Fem
ADD stabilise WS across midline to other foot
Knee: 5-40˚ F
Rec Fem restrain passive knee F
Ankle: 5 DF - 20 PF
Ankle PF passive tension facilitates knee F and active power generation
Initial swing
TO
Hip: 15˚ F
Hip flexors flex hip
ADD longus brings leg towards midline
Knee: 60˚F
Ankle: 10˚ PF
Tib Ant DF
Mid swing
Hip: 25˚ F
Hip flexors with momentum
Knee: 25˚ F
HS deceleration of knee F (knee E from tibial forward momentum)
Ankle: 0˚
Tib Ant concentrically contract
Terminal swing(MS - decelleration)
Hip: 25˚ F
HS decelerate forward swing of leg
Knee: 0˚ Quads contract to extend knee in prep for IC
Ankle: 0˚
DF contract to prep foot for IC
