GA Upper Arm Muscles, Vasculature and Innervation Flashcards
Muscles of the Upper Arm (5)
Biceps Brachii muscle, Bracialis muscle, Coracobrachialis muscle, Triceps brachii muscle, Anconeus muscle
Biceps Brachii Muscle
arises from 2 tendon heads
O - Short head- Tip of coracoid process, Long head - Supraglenoid tubercle and glenoid labrum
I - Tuberosity of the radius and fascia of the forearm via the biceps aponeurosis
A - supination of forearm; when supine, it flexes forearm; slight flexion at shoulder joint
I - Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5,C6,C7)
B - Brachial Artery
Brachialis Muscle
O - Distal 1/2 of anterior surface of humerus
I - Coronoid process and tuberosity of ulna
A - Flexion of forearm in all positions
N - Musculocutaneous nerve (C5,C6) and Radial Nerve (C5,C7)
B - Brachial artery
Coracobrachialis Muscle
O - Tip of coracoid process I - Middle 1/3 of medial surface of humerus A - Flex. and ADD of humerus N - Musculocutaneous nerve (C5,C6,C7) B - Axillary and brachial aa.
Triceps Brachii Muscle
O - Long head - Infraglenoid tubercle, Lateral head - post. surface of humerus sup. to radial groove, Medial head - Post. surface of humerus inf. to radial groove
I - Proximal end of olecranon and fascia of forearm
N - Radial nerve (C6,C7,C8)
B - Profunda brachii a.
Anconeus Muscle
O - Lateral epicondyle of humerus
I - Lateral surface of olecranon and superior part of post. surface of ulna
A - Assists in forearm extension; tenses capsule of elbow joint
N - Radial nerve (C7,C8,T1)
Brachial Artery
Continuation of axillary artery at inferior border of teres major muscle, terminates at cubital ofssa as radial and unla aa., unnamed muscular branches
origin of the: prfunda brachii a., superior ulna collateral a., inferior ulna collateral a.
Profunda brachii artery
most superior origin of brachial a., accompanies radial n., terminates as radial and radial collateral aa.
participates in periarticular anastomoses of elbow
Superior ulnar collateral artery
arises on medial aspect of brachial a. near middle of arm, accompanies unbar n. post. to medial epicondyle, anastomoses with post. ulnar recuurent a. and inf. ulnar collateral a.
also participates in periarticular anastomoses of elbow
Inferior ulnar collateral Artery
arises from medial aspect of brachial a. just proximal to elbow crease, passes anterior to medial epicondyle, anastomoses with sup. ulnar collateral a. and ant. ulnar collateral a.
also participates in periarticular anastomoses of elbow
Superficial veins
Cephalic v., Basilic v., Median cubital v., Intermediate antebrachial v. (20%)
Deep Viens
brachial veins
Cephalic Vein
communication at elbow with median cubital v., passes lateral to biceps brachii m., enters deltopectoral groove
Basilic Vein
pierces brachial fascia near inferior and middle 1/3 of arm, runs superiorly with brachial a. and meadial antebrachial cutaneous n., merges with brachial vv. and axillary v.
Median Cubital vein
crosses cubital fossa obliquely, joins caphalic and basilic vv.
