GA Hand Muscle, Vasculature and Innervation Flashcards
Abductor Pollicis Brevis muscle
forms anterolateral part of eminence
O - Flexor retinaculum and tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium
I - Lateral side base of proximal phalanx of thumb
A - ABD thumb; helps with opposition (rotation of proximal phalanx medially)
N - Recurrent branch of median n (C8,T1)
Flexor Pollicis Brevis muscle
located medial to Abductor pollicis brevis, has 2 heads
O - Superficial and deep heads - flexor retinaculum; tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium
I - Lateral side base of proximal phalanx of thumb
A - Flexes thumb at Cm and MP joints; aids in opposition
N - Superficial head - recurrent branch of median n. (C8,T1)
Deep Head - Deep branch of ulnar n. (C8,T1)
Opponens Pollicis muscle
Lies deep to APB and lateral to FPB, ats at CM joint exclusively
O - Flexor retinaculum and tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium
I - Lateral side of 1st metacarpal
A - Opposition of thumb (ABD and MR)
N - Recurrent branch of median n. (C8,T1)
Adductor Pollicis Muscle
two heads
O - Obloque head - bases of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals, capitate and adjacent carpals
Transverse head - anterior surface of shaft of 3rd metacarpal
I - Medial side base of proximal phalanx of thumb
A - ADD and gives power to grip
N - Deep branch of Ulnar n. (C8,T1)
Abductor Digit Minimi
most medial and superficial O - Pisiform I - Medial side base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit A - ABD of 5th digit N - Deep branch of ulnar n. (C8,T1)
Flexor Digiti Minimi Brevis muscle
lies lateral to abductor digiti minimi
O - Hook of hamate and flexor retinaculum
I - Medial side base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit
A - flexes proximal phalanx of 5th digit
N - Deep branch of ulnar n. (C8,T1)
Opponens Digiti Minimi muscle
Lies deep to abductor and flexor mm., acts exclusively at CM joint
O - hook of hamate and flexor retinaculum
I - Medial border of 5th metacarpal
A - Opposition of 5th digit (draws 5th digit anteriorly and rotates it laterally)
N - Deep branch of ulnar n. (C8,T1)
Palmaris Brevis muscle
small and thin muscle, in subcutaneous tissue and hypothenar eminence, covers and protects ulnar n. and a.
O - Medial border of palmar aponeurosis
I - Skin near medial border of hand
A - Wrinkles skin of hypothenar eminence (deepens hollow and aids in grip)
N - Superficial branch of ulnar n. (C8,T1)
Lumbricals 1-2 muscle
O - Lateral tendon of FDP
I - Lateral sides of extensor expansions of 2nd-3rd digits
A - Flex MP’s, extend IP’s of 2nd-3rd digits
N - #1 - lateral branch of median n. #2 medial branch of median n. (C8,T1)
Lumbricals 3-4 muscles
O - Medial 3 tendons of FDP
I - Lateral sides of extensor expansion of 4th-5th digits
A - flex MP’s, extend IP of 4th and 5th digits
N - Depp branch ulnar n. (C8,T1)
Palmar Interossei Muscle (1-3)
O - Palmar surfaces of 2nd, 4th-5th metacarpals
I - Bases of proximal phalanges, extensor expansions of 2nd, 4th-5th digits
A - ADD 2nd, 4th-5th digits, assists lumbricals in flexing MP;s and extending IPs
N - Deep branch of ulnar n. (C8,T1)
Dorsal Interossei Muscle (1-4)
O - Adjacent sides of two metacarpals
I - Bases of proximal phalanges, extensor expansions of 3nd-4th digits
A - ABD 2nd-4th digits, act with lumbricals in flexing MP;s and extending IPs
N - Deep branch ulnar n. (C8,T1)
