Fundamentals of Muscle Movement Flashcards
The muscle that shortens to act as the primary mover
Agonist
The muscle that acts in concert with the agonist by stretching or lengthening when the primary mover shortens
Antagonist
A muscle that contracts to stabilize an intermediate joint where you DONT want movement, when a biarticular muscle contracts
Synergist
A muscle that stabilizes the origin of the prime mover to improve the efficiency of the prime mover
Fixator
The fixed bone that a muscle attaches to
Origin
The mobile bone that a muscle attaches to
Insertion
A collection of muscle fibers wrapped in perimysium, running parallel to one another in a bundle
Fascicle
A group of muscles, separated by fascia, located in the same area and accomplishing the same tasks
Compartment
The pivot point around which a lever swings – an articular joint in the skeletomuscular system
Fulcrum
The force of contraction conveyed by a primary mover on a mobile skeleton member
Effort
The mass of the skeletal element being moved by a primary mover
Load
