Q

Describe how cortisol is released

A

CRH - corticotropic releasing hormone from the hypothalamus goes to the anterior pituitary and stimulates release of ACTH - adenocorticotropic hormone - this goes to the adrenal gland and stimulates the zona fasciculata to release glucogorticoids such as cortisol

Q

What causes the different zones to produce different hormones even though all steroid hormones are produced from cholesterol
