Fumigation Emergency
Vikane (fluorides) The fluorides are gases with sharp, irritating orders. They are used in industrial processes, glass etching, Rodenticides, preventive dentistry.
Fluorides are intensively toxic to skin, eyes, mucous membranes and respiratory system. Is usually fatal due to pulmonary edema and respiratory damage. Severe burns can be caused in seconds
PPE SCBA worn proximity
If entry C.R.E.S. Suit worn
Fumigation
Methyl Bromide (methyl and ammonium bromide)- Colorless, odorless gas, except in high concentrations where it has a sweetish, chloroform like odor.
Highly toxic upon inhalation. Contact of a liquid or vapor with skin or eyes can cause severe irritation and injury.
Full PPE with SCBA should be worn in proximity
CRES A chemical resistant encapsulating suit must be worn if entries made
Fumigation
Locate sign on 4 corners to determine
a) Name of the exterminating company
b) Type of fumigant
c) Initial time of fumigation
advise FCIO & hazmat
evac buildings Downwind if integrity of the tent or seal has been violated
exteriors should be searched for fumigation cylinders. They should be shut off or protect it with fire streams
Fumigation Fire
A defense mode from outside and upwind
The tent should be dropped to provide ventilation of fumigant or fire gases
EMS fumigation emergency’s
- Wash contaminated skin with a stream of freshwater for 15 minutes or until rescue arrives
- Provide BLS and monitor vital signs
- For eye burns, wash with running water for five min.
- O2 6-10 liters mask or nasal canula
- Referred to hazardous materials injuries handbook, available on hazmat team apparatus.
Fumigation Search and Rescue
Fumigation company will be called out and they can either remove the tent or conduct a search themselves
If child inside drop tent with appropriate PPE.
Hazmat makes entry with CRES
