Aircraft Emergency

A

A class III assignment with the addition of the hazardous materials team and the battalion chief will be dispatched

Alarm office will sound all tones

The primary hazard associated with aircraft accident is that liquid fuels are likely to be released and ignite it during the accident

Modern aircraft can weight over 800,000 pounds, heights greater then 65 ft and carry up to 60,000 gallons of fuel

Scene operations

A

Spray patterns maybe set initially on a wide angle to reduce the heat and flame and then reduce to 30° to attack the fire

Use foam windward side

Make paths with streams for escape routes for passengers

Protect aircraft fuselage from direct flame impingement

Aircraft Fuselage

A

The survivable atmosphere inside and intact aircraft fuselage involved in an exterior fuel fire is limited to approximately three minutes and this will be reduced considerably if the fuselage is fractured

Burn through of a fuselage directly exposed to flame will occur in approximately 60 to 90 seconds

Doors

A

Modern aircraft with the door sill higher than 5 feet usually have an inflatable evacuation slide

Doors on pressurized aircraft generally are plug type doors which push in slightly before opening out word or upward

Doors on unpressurized aircraft generally open outward and can be open from inside or outside the aircraft

A

Virtually all aircraft have fuel tanks on various types in the wings some also carry fuel in the center wing section within the fuselage

A

The blast and fragmentation radius for high explosive weapons range from a minimum of 400 feet to a maximum of 1000 feet with the recommend Evacuation area for non-firefighters of 1500 feet

Overhaul

A

Do not allow any overhaul operations to take place until investigative agency’s give their permission unless needed to suppress fire and take care of to preserve in place aircraft parts baggage debris etc.

Mutual aid (Six recognize rendezvous points for entrance into the airport)

A
  1. Central Boulevard terminal entrance from Le Jeune Road then just prior to overpass
  2. South E. Gate Perimeter Rd. across from tank farm at approximately NW. 16th St. (Mclaughin Dr)
  3. Read Road gate North Red Road and Northwest 36 street (next to new GAC terminal)
  4. Read Road gate South Red Road in S. Perimeter Rd.
  5. West gate 2650 Northwest Perimeter Rd. on the west side of Airport enter from 67th Ave. and Northwest 36 street or 67th Ave. and North W. 25th St.
  6. Southwest gate NW. 68th Ave. and 18th St.

Airport

A

No apparatus will enter the airport or cross runways or taxi Waze without an escort vehicle and no apparatus will pass the escort vehicle unless signaled by them to do so

Alarm office will give rendezvous point

Escort vehicles will be white in color with a yellow blinking warning light on top
