Frusemide Flashcards
What type is Frusemide?
Loop Diuretic
What is the action of Frusemide?
A potent loop diuretic which produces increassed urine output by inhibiting Na+ reabsorbtion in the lumen of the nephron vian organic base pump in the proximal tubule cells. This acts upon the ascending loop of Henle where it inhibits the NA+/K+/2Cl co transporter decreasing reabsorbtion of these Ions and decreased H2O reabsorbtion.
Onset, Peak, Duration
IM 10min 30 mins 2-3hrs
IV 5min 20-30min 2-3hrs
Use of Frusemide/
Cardiogenic Pulmonary Oedema
Adverse effects Hypovolaemia
Large doses can lead to decreased circulating volume due to excessive diuresis leading to hypovolaemic shock
Adverse effects dysrythmias
Potassium loss can precipitate dysrythmias by an ^ in K+excretion in urine this causes a decrease in the RMP of myocytes and requiring greater stimulus for an AP
